The homophone studies is one of important topics of the Pinyin -research, it is also the key of applying "Scheme for the Chinese phonetic alphabet" sciencely and effectively. For several dozens years, many scholars studied and discussde this question, had provided certain statistical data. But, generally, the statistical material is also not very rich, the statistical scope is not very widespread. To provide the related data to this research work, this article take "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(the 5th edition) as an object, has carried on the exhaustive statistics and the inspection to the modern Chinese glossary's homophone. In this article, the data we provided has reflected the modern Chinese homophone 's most new look comprehensively,and it is helpful for the people to understanding the homophone thoroughly, even more to clear about the homophone's importance in the vocabulary system.This article believed that homophone are words that they have the exactly same forms of initials,vowels,tones .The homophone is not equal to the homonym."Modern Chinese Dictionary"(the 5th edition) includes in all 10863 words of monosyllable ,the number of homophone only 4901, accounting for 45.12% of all monosyllable words .The ratio of monosyllabic homonyms reaches 96.61%."Modern Chinese Dictionary"has included 43171 two-syllable words,and the number of double-syllable homophone only 7915,they only accounting for 18.33% of the two-syllable words.Obviously, the phenomenon of homonym mainly concentrates in the monosyllable note.This article according to the different standards to divide the homophone of the modern Chinese into three categories.According to the number of syllables,divided them into monosyllabic homophone and double-syllable homophone;According to physique to be whether the same, divided them into the isomorph homophone and the heteromorphous homophone; According to lexical category to be whether the same, divided them into the homogeneous homophone and the opposite sex homophone. On the basis of the data statistics, has carried on the exhaustive analysis to the modern Chinese homophone 's present situation.It has analyzed the double-syllable isomorph homophone,and unison abnormity word these two kinds of special words emphatically. At the same time, has analyzed the reasons why so much homophone has existed,as well as the influence of communication in reality.Finally, under the context of Putonghua communication environment,we have carried on the discussion that the means of any method processing homonym.
