The thesis analyzes colours in the Chinese folk art and studies the features of colours collocation in the folk art and demonstrates the traditional elements in the folk art as the source of inspiration in art. It expects to have the help in the application of colours in the plane design.The Chinese folk art, which stems from people, is the origin of art and belongs to the body culture, with a long history. The colours of the folk art contain some elements such as religion, philosophy, Art, Culture, custom, etiquette and so on.Chinese colour concept originates from traditional Five-colour-outlook, that is: red, yellow, blue, white and black are pure colours, the others are alternative colours, among some common folk art forms and then find that they have strong decorative character and great vitality. By studying the colours in several folk art, this paper mainly points out that people like to use primitive and complementary, as well as black and white in proper proportion, which has strong decorative character and great vitality with our own nation's factors.The thesis analyzes the colours in some excellent cases of modern design and finds it is successful that they use the essence in the traditional colour culture. It is the result of combining the beauty in form and beauty in moral of the traditional colour elements with aesthetics and the principle of visual sense relay. At the same time, it proves that the modern design is closely related to the traditional culture. With nation's cultural spirit and world design language, it is necessary that tradition should combine with the modern design.
