Chinese flower-and-bird painting is an important part in Chinese painting; it creates several peaks in art history, and shows different styles in periods. As the famous painter ShiTao in Qing Dynasty said "writing should be accompanied with times", one period's art is a mirror of aesthetic appreciation in this period. In this way, modern flower-and-bird painting, as a branch of Chinese painting, also takes on modern thoughts, sentiments and characters. "The decorative" is a pursuit of beauty, its thoughts and identities in aesthetic appreciation exists in art work, also in flower-and-bird painting .However the difference is that traditional flower-and-bird painting emphasizes on line, writing skills, theme form, while the modern one is characterized with ideological shapes, sentiments in beauty, and skill's expression, which greatly enrich painting language in modern flower-and-bird painting.This thesis aims to conclude and analyze decorative characters and expressive methods and how to use "degree" of decoration in modern flower-and-bird painting, which is to help us fully to acknowledge it and benefit its creative work.
