Abstract/Summary:
In modern Chinese language, there are many words or phases can be added negative words, but still reflect positive meanings, that is , their meanings are the same or close to the original words or phrases. Because the negative words can be omitted or not, someone called this phenomenon as redundant negation. This phenomenon has already appeared in ancient China, and has turned to be more complicated and diverse in modern Chinese language. This dissertation is based on the theory of cognitive linguistics, by using of three-plane theory and grammaticalization and relative theories, to analyze and research on the unmatched phenomenon during the language expression process among three fields: form, meaning and content. This dissertation is divides into five parts: introduction, chapter one, chapter two, chapter three and conclusion.Introduction: Looking back on the history of scholars'research from individual to sort since mid 20th century. This part defines the concept of redundant negation and categorize it as sort phenomenon, finally, divides redundant negation into two types according to its different modes: X +(negative words) Vp and (negative words)X + Vp.Chapter One: X +(negative words) Vp. According to the different nature of"X", this dissertation divides this mode into four types: adverbial, verbal, substantive and associated character. These four types can also be divided into another different types according to their different meanings. This part has a detailed description about every type and points out its restricted factors and exploits the different meanings aroused by whether negative words are redundant or not, in order to further clarify the restriction of redundant negation.Chapter Two: (negative words)X + Vp. According to the different position of negative words in light of"X", this type can be divided into three types: prepositive, postpositive and midpositive negation. Meanwhile, this part has detailed analyses of each type and points out its restricted factors and exploits the different meanings aroused by redundant negation.According to the analysis of the above two forms, this dissertation reveals the inter-relations between X +(negative words) Vp and (negative words)X + Vp.Chapter Three: mechanism and existing values of redundant negation. Firstly, this part, in light of subjective and objective aspects, exploits the reason of the forming of redundant negation. The subjective reasons mainly reflect on the speakers'subjective and visual orientation, and objective reasons mainly reflect on the complexity of the meanings of"X", the influence of grammaticalization mechanism and influence of local dialects. In respect of expatiating the existing values of redundant negation, this part, in view of sending out and accepting information, sums up three points of its values, that is, show the subjective intent, enhance the effect of expression and highlight a different perspective. Conclusion: conclude main views of this dissertation and point out significance of the research.
