Differences in language originate from many factors,either from local or outside. Therefore,in researching the differences between two languages,we must look at the local,historical,political,and cultural aspects.The main focus of this thesis lies in researching Indonesian Huayu(Chinese in Indonesia) in comparisons with Putonghua,and exploring the grammatical differences between the two languages.These differences will be explained by investigating the factors that lie beneath the differences.Furthermore,the present status of Indonesian Huayu will be described.This thesis consists of five chapters:The first chapter introduces the definitions of "Chinese language" and "Huayu", after which the historical background of Indonesian Huayu is viewed against the changing overseas Chinese community and its language development during the course of time.Political events and overseas Chinese from all over the world have led to the differences between Indonesian Huayu and modern Putonghua.Lastly,the strong points and weaknesses of the applied research methods will also be discussed.The second chapter is the principal part of this thesis,it analyzes and names the grammatical differences between Indonesian Huayu and modern Putonghua in order to analyze and describe and explain,make two distinctions,namely word class and syntax.Word class analysis with verb,adjective,adverb,numerical,measure word, manner of speaking,preposition;syntax divide that include word order questions, positive and negative questions and questions concerning to unsuitable pairing, word-formation analysis include "-er"("儿") suffix,prefix "a-"("阿") problems, clipped word and homonyms matter.The third chapter examines and clarifies the elements of grammar differences between Indonesian Huayu and modern Putonghua,thereby making a distinction between one's native country factors,external factors and Chinese dialect factors.The fourth chapter investigates the congruence and way between Indonesian Huayu and modern Putonghua.Besides presenting the current state of Indonesian Huayu,this thesis will also explain/clarify the importance of standards in language, and suggest several coordinating methods for Indonesian Huayu.
