This paper uses experimental method to study the acoustic characteristic of plosives, affricates and nasals of Taiyuan dialect. At the same time, it makes a comparative study on Taiyuan dialect, the standard Chinese and other Chinese dialects, inspects in acoustical similarities and differences of the consonant in different dialects. The paper consists of five chapters. In Chapter One, it introduces the present situation of the experimental study on the consonant of Chinese dialects and the research survey of the consonant of Taiyuan dialect, and elaborates the methods and processes of this article. In Chapter Two, it inspects the acoustic characteristic of plosives in the Taiyuan dialect and other Chinese dialects. The voice onset time, the duration of the closure, the transition cue, the spectrum and the fundamental frequency of the vowel being followed by the plosive, has the common rule respectively in the field of the manner of articulation and the position of articulation.Different manner of articulation: It is longer that the voice onset time of the aspirated plosive. It is more obvious that the gasification effecting in the initial section being followed by the vowel of the aspirated plosive. It is longer that the duration of the closure of the unaspirated plosive. It is stronger that the law leaking from the transition cue being followed by the vowel of the unaspirated plosive. It stabilizes comparatively that the initial fundamental frequency being followed by the vowel of the unaspirated plosive. It is better that the fitting degree of "T" of the fundamental frequency being followed by the vowel of the unaspirated plosive.Different position of articulation: It is the longest that the voice onset time of the velar plosive. It is the longest that the duration of the closure of the bilabial plosive. It is the strongest that the law leaking from the transition cue being followed by the vowel of the alveolar plosive. It is the most obvious that the gasification effecting in the initial section being followed by the vowel of the alveolar plosive. It stabilizes comparatively that the initial fundamental frequency being followed by the vowel of the velar plosive. It is better that the fitting degree of "T" of the fundamental frequency being followed by the vowel of the alveolar plosive. In Chapter Three, it analyzes the acoustic characteristic of affricates in the Taiyuan dialect and the standard Chinese. The duration of the friction, the transition cue, the spectrum and the fundamental frequency of the vowel being followed by the affricate, has the common rule respectively in the field of the manner of articulation and the position of articulation. Different manner of articulation: It is longer that the duration of the friction of the aspirated affricate. It is more obvious that the gasification effecting in the initial section being followed by the vowel of the aspirated affricate. It is stronger that the law leaking from the transition cue being followed by the vowel of the unaspirated affricate.Different position of articulation: It is longer that the duration of the friction of the alveolar affricate. It is stronger that the law leaking from the transition cue being followed by the vowel of the alveolar affricate. It is lower that the initial fundamental frequency being followed by the vowel of the alveolar affricate. It is more obvious that the gasification effecting in the initial section being followed by the vowel of the palatal affricate. In Chapter Four, it studies the acoustic characteristic of nasals in the Taiyuan dialect and other Chinese dialects. The length, the formant, the spectrum and the fundamental frequency of the vowel being followed by the nasal, has the common rule respectively in the field of the position of articulation.Different position of articulation: It is longer that the length of the bilabial nasal. It is higher that the first formant of the bilabial nasal. It is lower that the second formant, the third formant of the bilabial nasal. It is better that the fitting degree of "T" of the fundamental frequency being followed by the vowel of the bilabial nasal. In Chapter Five, it summarizes the acoustic characteristic of plosives, affricates and nasals of Taiyuan dialect in the field of the length, intensity, formant, the transition cue, the spectrum and the fundamental frequency being followed by the vowel. It proposes the inadequacies of the study, should be improved in the field of research method and theory etc.
