The Experimental Study On Tonesin New School Tones Of The Southern Suburbs’ Dialect In Taiyuan

This thesis is about the study of the new school dialect vowels that is belong to the southern outskirts of Taiyuan. The study is based on experimental phonetics by the experimental method. Through the aural identification and the contrast of the main formant for the new school dialect vowels, from the acoustic point of view, I describe and summarize some characteristics of the new school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts. The characteristics as follows:1. There are six simple vowels in the new school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts,they are:[η]>[i]、[A]>[(?)]、[u]、[y].Compared with the old school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts, the quantity is less and some simple vowels tend to be diphthongs.2. There are twelve diphthongs in the new school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts.Four of them are closing diphthongs,they are:[ai]、[au]、[ei]、[γω].Eight of them are opening diphthongs,them are:[iA]、[uA]、[yγ]、[ie]、[uγ]、[u(?)]、[i(?)]、[y(?)].The same medial vowels are affected by the different main vowels; otherwise, the different medial vowels make a little influence on the some main vowels.3. There are four diphthong in the new school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts, they are:[uai]、[uei]、[iau]、[iγω].Compared with the old school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts, the quantity is less. The same medial vowels and the same tail vowels will be influenced by the different main vowels, they will show different status.4. There are four nose rhyme vowels in the new school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts, they are:[(?)]、[iη]、[yη]、[uη].Compared with the old school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts, before nasal rhyme vowels tend to be after nasal rhyme.[in]becomes [iη] and [yn] become [yη].5. Brock rhyme is still characteristic in the new school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts. There are seven brock rhyme vowels in the new school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts, they are:[A?]、[iA?]、[uA?]、[(?)?]、[i(?)?]、[u(?)?]、[y(?)?].[A] From the old school dialect vowels of the Taiyuan southern outskirts become [A],the position of the tongue is more forward and lower.Based the compared with each other, the same medial vowels of the brock rhyme compound vowels are affected by the different main vowels,but the same the medial vowels are affected seldom by the different main vowels.
