After China's reform and opening up to the outside world, people's"worshipping foreign"has lead to the westernization of a large amount of local public arts during the rapid development of Chinese urban construction. Meanwhile, in order to meet the west's"novelty seeking"from"ancient and different"China, a large number of public arts are crudely made to be archaic in the appearance. According to this flood situation of Chinese public arts, this paper addresses the"worshipping foreign"and"archaizing home"situation of local cities'architecture and sculpture which occupies most parts of public arts as the research objects. Try to analyze from postcolonialism perspective, and point out that"worshipping foreign"equals"archaizing home". They both cater for the tastes of the West who are dominant in the world order, and are both in obedience to its exotic oriental culture position that the west names. Using"the Third Space"theory of Homi K. Bhabha to explore the creative way of developing local cities'public arts. It also comes up with the feasible programs that can be used to build the distinct geographical and cultural characteristics of Chinese local public arts. Hope this paper can provide a useful material to make local public arts get rid of simply"worshipping foreign"and"Archaizing home", build Chinese public arts with Chinese characteristics.
