May 4th Movement of 1919 has influrnced Chinese people for several generations, the modernization of Chinese thoughts has benefited a lot from this. The forerunners in May 4th period tried to destroy the old culture and establish new culture. Under their influence, new-style literary group came out, young intellectuals took their pens to attack the old society and old literary works, and they had produced lots of modern literary works with different style. The front period of Rou Shi's works were deeply influenced by the style of those young intellectuals in May 4th period. We can feel the influence of enlightenment movement in his works, on the one hand, young people were very depressed by not finding the way out and succeeding the old powers; on the other hand, young people were looking for love, but they were very sad by not finding it. As far as the souce materials were concerned, different literary branches had influenced Rou Shi's works, he had produced two totally different types of works: one is the source materials which come from his own experiences and lack of imaginative stories; the other one is totally imaginative, it is the production of romantic ideas and not real. These two types vary not only in source materials but also in the way of expression.Rou Shi kept a close relationship with Lu Xun, he was trained by Lu Xun and was considered as one of the member in "Lu Xun Group", Rou Shi had got a great help from Lu Xun in life and literary works. Under the guidance of Lu Xun, Rou Shi had made a great improvement in literary production. Firstly, on the relationship of art and reality, Lu Xun emphasized that people should envisage darkness, divulge darkness and reflect reality clingingly. Under the guidance of Lu Xun, the realism in Rou Shi's works had increased greatly, some works held the trdational characters as in Battle Cry and Oscillation and express the didacticism and realism; secondly, on the issue of art tendency, Lu Xun insisted that art tendency and reality should consolidate with each other, he proposed that art should be considered as propoganda, art rules should be neglected, he stressed that art should reflect reality. Lu Xun's realism idea had deeply influenced Rou Shi, Rou Shi's works did not have the common fault as in those revolutionary novels in that period, no blunt slogans and "revolution +amativeness" fault. The reflection of lives in Rou Shi's works are real, his ideas are naturally expressed through the description of realism.Forerunner of May 4th Movement in 1919 considered western culture as a forceful weapon to attack China's feudal and autocratic culture, spreading and learning western culture were also considered as an important phenomena in May 4th period. Westen culture also influenced the creation of Rou Shi's works. Humanitarianism, a western philosophy, had greatly infouenced Rou Shi's creation. The reason why Rou Shi and his works are convulsing is that he had casted super-class care and sympathy to the lower class people. In his works as The Story of Ghose and his wife, Three Sisters, Feburary, As a Slave's Mother, you may find this humanitarianism. Tolstoy had influenced Rou Shi's creation, the introduction of western culture through May 4th Movement and the spreading of anarchism guided Rou Shi to touch Tolstory's idea and works. However, Rou Shi's attitude toward Tolstoy had exceeded the text and anarchism, he grasped Tolstoy's idea in deep level. From Rou's works, people can often feel Tolstoy's shadow, Rou Shi agreed with Tolstoy's opinion of self confess , "don't use force to fight against vice" and humanity, these ideas had shown up in some of Rou Shi's works. Realism literary works in North European abandoned the tendency of old romaticism which escaped reality, paid more attention to the social problems, tried to reflect the lives of lower class, claimed revolting and striving. The translation of Realism Literary works in North Europe also influenced the creation of Rou Shi's works in cultural respect.
