Based on the grammar theory of three-dimensional grammar as a guide, the paper focuses on the research into the diachronic meanings of wan,the words and the verb-complement structure containing wan.It cards the meanings of wan from diachronic level to be familiar with the source of its meanings in modern Chinese clearly, which provides the basis of the semantic level to demonstrate the words containing wan and the verb-complement structure in the following. For the words containing wan,we study mainly on the following three problems:the inherent rationale of the former morpheme, which wan involved in parallel compounds occupies;the distinction of synonyms in parallel compounds wan participates in the construction—the process of lexicalization and mechanism of the additional compound(wan le)in participating in the construction. For the words containing the verb-complement structure,we will do a certain amount of research on the semantic feature of the former verb;the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic functions of the whole verb-complement structure in a greater syntactic environment;the fictionalization of the latter item(wan)of the structure in the complement position. The article is composed of three chapters, plus two parts of introduction and conclusion. The introduction mainly presents the research significance, research profile and the source of corpus, among of which, the research profile is the focus of the part we take a certain amount of carding to the research profile respectively according to the diachronic meanings of wan to the words containing wan to the verb-complement structure containing wan.Furthermore, summarizing the research characteristics and achievements of relevant researchers, the author points out the shortcomings in the previous researches briefly and delimits the research scope and methodology.Chapter 1 is about the study of diachronic meanings of wan, where we divide into three periods to be discussed. We find the meaning of wan as a noun dispatched to the meanings of wan as verb and adjective, which were most common during the period in the ancient times. The meaning of wan as a noun vanished and appeared with synonymous and near-synonymous words in the medieval times,in which wan develops the meaning of "jiao na" used lasting for generations. The meanings of wan changes a lot in the modern times—that is to say,the meanings of xiu shan, zheng li and bao quan as verb are seen only in the text of recording the historical facts and only both the meaning of jiao na used since the medieval times and the meanings of jie shu,wan jie, guang, jin developed in the period are widely used.In addition, the meaning of wan(jian gu)disappeared,in this period compounds participated by wan in the construction emerged in large numbers and are further used in the contemporary age.At this time, the category, meanings and usage are up to be solid.Chapter 2 tells about the study on the compound of "wan +~"pattern. We find the situation that "wan" in "wan +~" pattern occupies the former position is determined by the law in distribution of the order of words inside parallel compounds in Chinese, that is to say,the sequence of playing roles is tone order(the order of tone)>code sequence(initial sequence)>rhyme sequence(final sequence). What is more, we distinguish the parallel compound of "wan +~"pattern with similar meanings by extracting semantic features and making statistics for objects of collocation as well as styles often seen.We also find that "wan le2" with the function of conjunction has been an additional compound which evolutes gradually from the syntactic distribution of the verb "wan" as complement expressing "jie shu" and the style marker "le".Its mechanism of lexicalization is the appropriateness between the pragmatic principles of pace as well as linguistic thrifty longed for by the communication in information and the function of the "v wan le" syntactic pattern.Chapter 3 is about the research on the verb-complement structure of "v + wan" pattern. We also find that the sufficient and necessary conditions in the collocation of the verb-and "wan" in the "v wan" pattern 1.That is to say,the verb has to own some semantic features as[+ inception+],[+ duration+++],[+ finish+++]or[+ finish++++]; there are semantic features of the verb in "v wan "pattern 2;the semantic features in "v wan" pattern 2 change a little by the semantic roles in the sentence pointed to by "wan".While the "v wan" pattern 1,is mainly used to mark the relative time the behaviors take place expressed by other verbal phrases in the syntactic environment, the "v wan" pattern 2 are mostly done as a predicate, asking for the existence of the semantic roles pointed to by "wan" in the sentence as well."Wan" in the "v wan" pattern 1 has been fictionalized a little in the position of complement. In semantics,in implies that it lost the semantic feature of[+ dong zuo]and only remains those of[jie shu/wan jie];in syntax,it implies that it is only used as complement in the most of circumstances. What is more, compared with the usual verb-complement structure, the "v wan" pattern 1 is only extended restrictedly.According to the comparison between the style marker "le"(expressing the accomplishment of the behavior)and "guo"(expressing the end of the behavior),we find out:wan:in the "v wan "pattern 1 has fictionalized to the extent very similar to the style marker "guo",but it has a certain way compared with the style marker "le 1".
