With the glories of the ancient Greek civilization,the city-state system as an important component of the the Greek civilization can not be neglected. Exploring the reasons for the changing of the system can make the grasp of modern democracy and the resources of the spirits of the"rule of law"more clearer .This paper clarified on the basis of the concept of city-state, through exploring the origin of the system, analyzing the development and the transformation process from the Greek city-state system of"pre-city"to"post-city", particularly focus on the process which have an important impact on the two Cause rationality, war research, in order to reveal that in the course of the development of civilization in ancient Greece, rationality played the role as the "deconstruction and reconstruction" as well as the dual role of the war in the city-state system history.
