On The City In The 1980s Novel Writing

With the development of economy and the acceleration of urbanization in Taiwan, urban writing is prevalent and occupies an important place in Taiwan's literature. A group of young writers who born and live in urban and grow up with intense urban consciousness get on the literature stage. They focus on the urban problem and the living situation of city people and all these become the main content and target of their writing. The social and economic development provide the circumstances for the prosperity of urban literature and on the other way round, the urban literature express the society's spiritual feature in the process of urbanization. The modern literature in Taiwan grow up from the period of bonding with politic to finding the root in village, and then to focusing on the urban. This process of growing is the result of social change as well as the result of the change in the literature own development. This paper will attempt to take a restricted view on the spatial image which represent the Taiwan's urban literature and survey the living condition of urbanite, and then compare the emotional change of people to the urban (city) in the Taiwan's modern literature to analyze the attitude of Taiwan urbanite to urban in 1980s and the thinking mode of urban writer, and in the end, this paper conclude the aesthetic feature in urban writing. The specific processes are following:The preface will give a bird's eye on the social and economic background of Taiwan in 1980s and distinguish the definition, clear the research object, and review the achievement of former researchers.Chapter one: the exhibition of the urban space. The urban atmosphere can be felt and the aesthetic feeling can be analyzed through the exhibition of spatial image which is normal and represent the Taiwan's urban novels.Chapter two: the living condition of urbanite. The aim of urban writing is reflect the soul world. This chapter will reproduce the figure's internal mind and the characteristic of social style.Chapter three: the emotional change to urban from the urban writing. The attitude of emotion experiences a changing process in the Taiwan society which full with strong village culture. The Taiwan's modern literature just records the changing process. This chapter compares the different emotional components to city and the longing of ideal urban before and after 1980.Chapter four: the cultural context and the narrative feature of urban writing. The pattern of urban writing is changing to cater the necessity of numerous and complicated urban life by the influence of the openness context and different kinds of thoughts. In the same time, the urban writing which happened in a commercial society also reflects the features of consummation.The conclusion part will analyze the historical value of urban writing and point out the shortage of it and end the whole paper there.
