The mid-7th century, Peakche and Koguryo were conquered by Tang Dynasty and Silla, the other country in Korean Peninsula. Most drifting people of the two countries were compelled to Silla, while some of them moved to Tang Dynasty and Japan, especially Peakche, many people entered and settled in Japan to escape from the war, including the royalfamily, aristocrat and civilian. There is little research on the problem of distributing, inhabitancy condition, economic activity and political affect of the drifting people. In ancient time, the immigrants from Korean Peninsula played an important role in Japanese society and culture. Many Japanese scholars follow them of great interest and make much research. However, there is much more difficulty on this question because the historical data about drifting people of that period is on the verge of extinction. In addition, for most of Japanese historical records contain lots of false content, which is far from facts, it is really a difficult problem.By analyzing the Korean drifting people society and comparing the historical records of bestowing name, appoint position from 7-9 century, the author tries to point the following aspects.First, in Nara Period (710~794), Korean drifting people's social position rose and gain much more privilege on bestowing name and appoint position.Second, proper arrangements had been made for the placement of Korean drifting people. And Japan royal remitted their taxes.Third, on the aspect of conferring positions, the situation is to Korean drifting people's advantage. In Nara Period there were eight fourth-rank officials who came from immigrant, and six of which were Korean drifting people.Besides above, the author also studies the live and marriage formation of drifting people. Household registration, taxes and military system are contained in this paper as well.Lastly, this article delves further into the relationship between the Korean drifting people and propagating Buddhism in ancient Japan, as well as the contribution they had made to Shinto.
