Under the impact of marketing economy, traditional handicraft industry is not undergoing a natural development, not to say a rational one. This thesis tries to elaborate on changes of earthenware production in Guihua Town, basing on two interweaving clues: business regulation and way of living, with fast urbanization since 1980 in the background. 1990s can be used as a node in time when earthenware production before or after that is influenced by changes in ways of living and the loss of former business regulation. This thesis is doing research on earthenware production from the perspectives of social background and business regulation. By looking at folk handicrafts in the eyes of real life and changes of time, one can notice the techniques, tools, forms and producing process of folk handicrafts and people who make all those happen. It is better to understand folk handicrafts within the space of life and culture.Although changes in ways of living is an important reason for the decline of traditional handicraft business, the loss of original business regulation and lacking of government support cause the traditional handicrafts to lose technique innovation and product regeneration, thus losing the battle in marketing economy as an united business circle, and going back to the old state of running its own course. To avoid that, earthenware men in Guihua town seeks the protection by the application for intangible heritage, but it is more helpful to consider how to make earthenware production more life-real, that is more related to modern life. With the support of complete business regulation and government participation, traditional handicrafts will be developed and handed down to next generation.
