'Explorer' Literary League founded in June 1957,was composed by eight young authors in Jiangsu Province.The eight authors were respectively GAO Xiaosheng,LU Wenfu,AI Xuan,CHEN Chunnian,YE Zhicheng,FANG Zhi,MEI Rukai,and ZENG Hua.They founded the League with the faith of 'Exploring the Literature,Improving the Reality '.Impelled by the enthusiasm and passion for literature,they also planned to issue a literary journal＜Explorer＞.Unfortunately,a political storm came,so both the 'Explorer' Literary League and the unformed journal met with a mishap. Meanwhile,all the eight authors had to pay for the idea of organizing 'Explorer' Literary League,and they were compelled to spend their youth working as farmers or workers instead of writers.In all,all the efforts of those young authors resulted in wasted because of the sudden political storm in 1957.Nowadays,when we look back towards the 'Explorer' Literary League,one thing is clear that the consciousness of exploring and criticizing is precious and essential for the development of civilization as well as the whole society.All the efforts and courage of the eight young authors are praiseworthy.New era came.The year of 1976 sees China welcomed the reformation of almost everything in the society.People's mind was refreshed,they found back the passion and hope for this newly-looked country again.The former 'Explorers' also felt revived.They picked up the pen,expressing the emotion which was hidden inside their heart for more than two decades.Although the 'Explorer' authors suffered deeply from the torture of the political storm,they did not lose the spirit of exploring the path in the field of literature.When the new era came,they were given the chance to write something again.Surprisingly,they were not beaten down by the miserable fate.On the other hand,they became more powerful and they still insisted the faith of 'Exploring the Literature,Improving the Reality ' just like two decades ago.The former 'Explorer' authors,who came back to the field of literature in the new era 1976,did not pour out their discontent and indignation which accumulated in the past two decades through their writing,but showed their consciousness and disenchantment in their novels,thinking deeply about the history and the construction of the society.The keyword of 'Explorer' Literary League is 'Explore',which is the soul of the League.In this day and age,materialism is much more rampant than any other times before.So promoting the spirit of 'Explorer' Literary League is particularly essential and valuable for the advancement of contemporary literature.This thesis,which has three main parts,is a research of the history of 'Explorer' Literary League and its leaguers.In the first part,I would like to probe into the connection between the history background in 1957 and the fate of the League.In the second part,I will analyze the text of the announcement of this League,as well as the frustration which the League suffered from.In the last part,I will explore the phenomena of the Leaguers'returning to the literary world since 1976,and their contribution to the novel writing.
