This article describes and analyses all the modal particals in "Journey to the West",in order to display the complexion of modal particals in Ming Period .As a very important period, the modal paricals system was transforming from neoteric Chinese to modern Chinese.In that period, the ancient age modal particiles and the modern modal particiles were used together,as a steady phase.At the same time,that period was a phase for them to accommodate with each other,searching a useful modality.This article made a comparison research on the modal particles in "Journey to the West"and "A Dream of Red Mansions".The modal particles system of "Journey to the West" is more closer to the ancient age modal particiles system.Some of the ancient age modal particiles were reducing obviously,however,some of the modern modal particiles were positively seeking after development.The article is constituted by five parts:first part of this article summarizes the productions on mood and modal particles, object of study, research techniq and selected topic significance.The second part uses Chinese characters frequency retrieval software to retrieve the ancient age modal particiles ,the modern modal particiles and two or three modal particles used together,which appear in "the journey to the west".Then this article lists the data of appearing frequency and the inverse proportion. The third part is the main body on description and analysis.It describes every modal particle on the function and usage.Then it compares with the modern Chinese.The fourth part is the comparative study, there will be made a comparison research of the modal particles in "Journey to the West" and "A Dream of Red Mansions" .Then it summaries the different characteristics in these two periods.The fifth part is the conclusion part.
