Drama Adaptation. "story Of Ah Q" Study

Classics is always adapted to other arts.As one of the best short stories and the earliest world-famous Modern China novel,The True Story of Ah Q is destined to be adaped.There are many playwrights who have adapted The True Story of Ah Q from its' emergence.But there have been few systematic and deep academic thesis on that. So,this paper studies The True Story of Ah Q's modern drama adaptation to rich the study of The True Story of Ah Q.Firstly,this paper focuses on the characterization.Character is the people who takes actions and the important element with which the playwright shows his main story and connotation.Although different playwright takes different methods in adapting, there are two same tendencies among them.One is that the playwrights have changed the nature of the characters.They create many plots to uglify the roles who belong to exploiting class such as Zhao Tai Ye and Ja Yang Gui Zi.And at the same time they create some details to beautify the exploited class such as Ah Q and Qi Jin.The other tendency is that all the playwrights make the female roles such as Wu Ma and Xiao Ni Gu more important and make the stage play of The True Story of Ah Q more lively and vulgar.Secondly,this paper discusses the organization about the novel The True Story of Ah Q and the modern drama The True Story of Ah Q.Both novel and drama need organization,but the novel is freer.The modern drama is a kind of performing art without free time and place and stricter in organization.When the playwrights make the novel The True Story of Ah Q into a modern drama,they usually take Opening Organization which is more faithful to the original work.But there are also some unfaithful adaptation such as The Xian Heng Wing Shop written by Mei Qian' which adopts a different organization.Finally,this paper studies the language problems during the process of changing the novel The True Story of Ah Q into a modern drama.Because not only many intellectuals but also many illiterates watch the modern drama,the playwrights delete the rarely used words and some classical Chinese in the original work written by Lu Xun.Instead,they use the oral language which is easy for the common people.The playwrights also use dialogues and comments behind the curtain in order to be more faithful to the original language.Although during the adapting,some pith and connotation of the original work have lost,adapting is really a good way to popularize the classics and make The True Story of Ah Q be more well-known.And the more perfect adaptation need the further understanding about The True Story of Ah Q and the more gifted playwright.
