The preface firstly generalizes scholars' changes in this research field, and then briefly summarizes the research points of this paper.The first chapter concludes four reasons which lead to the unfortunate endings of women in Su Manshu' s novels. Of course, in many circumstances, these four reasons are working together to induce the sad endings. Then the writer looks for the common characters of these females, in order to find the perfect female characters in Su Manshu' s mind and his opinion on love.The second chapter sets Su Manshu' s novels in a specific history background, a time of Qing dynasty turning to the Republic of China, to find the differences between his tragedy novels and other novels in the same kind at that time. The writer classifies Su Manshu' s novels into two kinds, and then discuss deeply based on the reason which leads to the sad ending.The third chapter pays lots of attention to the artistic form of Su Manshu' s novels. Same as many other writers, Su Manshu lived in time when Chinese and western cultures were starting to communicate. Not only Chinese traditional describing techniques, but some new writing skills appeared in foreign countries, were seen in Su Manshu' s novels.
