This thesis shall focus on Vladimir Nabokov's"Anti-Freudianism"exuded by the surface layer of the text of Lolita, and by proceeding with the structure, get to the very core of such inclination."Anti-Freudianism"is used by Nabokov to construct the whole text, and this consummate strategy of his has to be seen in the light of his unique literary make-believe view, and his dual capacity as a playing Nabokov—both a butterfly researcher and a composer of chess problems. And then, this structural strategy is to be penetrated in each individual chapter. Lastly, it is discovered that it is by borrowing and transforming Freudian theory that Nabokov radically elucidates his own interpretation of desire in its existential sense, which is the real implication underlying this phenomenal"Anti-Freudianism"——that desire identifies one's being.
