Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum of Beijing is Chinese Ya Drum, which is a legacy of ancient art performance in Northern China. Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum has spread widely in Beijing, which once existed in almost ten counties or districts in Xuanwu and Haidian. Until now, this folk art still exists in Fengtai, Changping, Mentougou and other places, especially Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum in Houniufang Village, Xiaotangshan Town of Changping, which is not only well preserved in integrity with distinctive morphological characteristics which facilitate us to familiarize many characteristics of this folk dance or even Chinese Ya Drum; but also has become a culture symbol and an intangible cultural phenomenon of Houniufang in the development of the village, which meets main features of cultural landmark and reflects the relationship, order and logic in the village culture. Therefore, this paper not only treats Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum in Houniufang Village of Changping as the main research subject, but also combines many theories and methodologies to treat it as an important viewpoint and dimension to understand local culture and grasp the rich, dynamic and interrelated local community.This paper has four parts:PartⅠ. Organize and explain reason and research significance of topic selection, explain research data and methodologies of this paper, and clarify research priority of this paper. Elaborate on the development status quo of Beijing Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum, and further indicate the uniqueness of Houniufang Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum and research necessity.PartⅡ. Based on the field interview in Xiaotangshan and surrounding area, and in combination with organization and analysis in literature and civil genealogy, this chapter has elaborated on the historical development of Xiaotangshan Area and Niufang Village and conducted a profound analysis of the reasons for the formation of village traditions, which has laid a foundation for artistic features of Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum.PartⅢ. This chapter describes the collective memory of villagers by using the legend of an ancient Chinese scholar tree, and analyzes it with theories of historical anthropology, which shows for villagers of Houniufang, the legend of Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum is interconnected with immigrant memory and a symbolic paraphrase.PartⅣ. This chapter explains how Houniufang Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum is combined with village legend and memory and finally becomes the village cultural symbol through religious activities and blending with external communities. Besides, this paper has systematically and scientifically explained the art performance and artistic features of Houniufang Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum which differentiates from that of other areas of Beijing by using characteristics analysis of dance ecology. Finally, examine and explore cultural reproduction of Chinese Hua Cymbal Bass Drum during the urbanization process of Houniufang in the view that cultural symbols wake up and remodel group identity.
