The research may not only add something to historical geography and environmental evolution research but also have theoretical significance to the protection of bears.The paper includes six aspects:Firstly, in this part the reason for choose the topic, the significance for the study and the current research situations were given. Historical animals' geography is one of the most important parts of environmental system. Environmental changes must be caused by both human factors and natural factors, they shaping environment on their own levels. The bears firstly appeared in the geological period, and there were a lot of records about bears, especially in the literatures about each region of china, that's providing fundamental materials for our research. But the systematic research on understanding and utilization about the bear in ancient china is very weak, that is providing a wide research platform. So the research may not only add something to historical geography and environmental evolution research but also had theoretical significance to the protection of the bear.Secondly, emphatically analyzes the species category of bear, morphology and ecological characteristics of bears was detailed exposited. So we can make a preparation for discrimination of bear in historical period in this paper.Thirdly, discuss the significance about bear in Chinese culture. In this paper the writer takes the historical documents as the basis, start with the related literature and kinds of bear's ancient names to discuss the three aspects symbol of bears' fierce, propitious moral and just, also disastrous symbolic significances. The writer also has done much work in documents collation and restoration of historical period of bears. China is used to be a country which relatively rich in bear resources, the ancient's cognition of bears started very early, since our country's earliest writing inscription on animal bones and tortoise shells birth, the bears' record had appeared. Along with social productive forces development, the people's ability strengthens enormously, in Han Dynasty palace pen started to raise bears. The people's knowledge of bears became richer and richer, and from solely simply to diversity in the long-term production practice. The history of bears is start to know bears from aspects on their posture and habits, then developed the bear totem worship, integrates finally take bears to the complete cultural system.Fourthly, discuss the utilization of bears in historical period. Through the analysis of historical document materials, the traditional Chinese medicine value, food resources, the raw material for leather making three aspects carries on the elaboration to bears' use condition; particularly the traditional Chinese medicine use aspect is the elaboration key point to further the predecessors' research in this area. Through collating in the literature record of the bears use we discovered bears has extensively utilized in our country in the past.Fifthly, carry on the summary to the paper.
