"Cheng-shi mo-yuan" is a sculptural book about ink-stick complied by ink-stick merchant Cheng Dayue of Huizhou in the late Ming period, the ink-stick book includes more than 500 art images which applied to the ink-stick. These images have rich-subject matters, beautifully painted, a wide array of source, and have the unique forms of codification; the book has a very high artistic value at that time and has a significant impact on the generations. At the same time, the spread of graphic communication as a form of art dissemination occupied an important position. Thus, studying the image dissemination of "Cheng-shi mo-yuan" will be helpful to understand the process of image dissemination in China. This paper aims to do a depth study on the process of image dissemination of " Cheng-shi mo-yuan " from art dissemination view of point with the basic principles of Mass Communication. According to the procedures of its image dissemination, we will explore several issues in turn -- the image communicators, the dissemination motives, the collection of image information, the formation of image carrier, the way and impact of image dissemination, eventually, it will show the entire dissemination process. During the study course, we could get two revelations: the first is that the image book has important value in image dissemination, and the second is that the relationship between image innovation and the innovation of art form.
