Study On The Changes Of Cheng Yaojin’s Image From Tang To Qing Dynasty

Cheng Yaojin was an ordinary general in the history of Sui and Tang Dynasties.However,after his image entered literary works,his background,appearance,weapon,and personality have changed dramatically.These changes were not done at one stroke.Through the continuous accumulation and transformation of various styles such as script for story-telling,opera and novel,Cheng Yaojin grew into a favorite character.This thesis will sort out the changing process of Cheng Yaojin’s image from the Tang Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty,analyze the cultural connotation behind it,and explore the character-building skills of Cheng Yaojin’s image in the novels of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The introduction part mainly introduces the origin of this topic,research methods,and innovations.In addition,it summarizes the previous researches on Cheng Yaojin.The paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the historical prototype of Cheng Yaojin’s image in the Tang and Song Dynasties.Based on the records of Cheng Yaojin in the articles,notes and history books,we can summarize its historical image has the characteristics of bravery,wariness,decisiveness,loyalty,outstanding merit,and noble birth.The second chapter is the inheritance and development of Cheng Yaojin’s image in the Yuan Dynasty.The image of Cheng Yaojin in Xue Rengui’s expedition to Liao Dynasty was in the same vein as the historical prototype.It showed the quality of cherishing talents and righteous.In dramas of Yuan Dynasty,Cheng Yaojin’s image was divided into elegance and popularity.The third chapter is Cheng Yaojin’s image got into shape in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Both the characteristics and personality of Cheng Yaojin’s image have changed in the novels.The plentiful of the character was mainly reflected in four aspects:Comic,Filial and Loyalty,Rebellious,Popular.The fourth chapter is the cultural implication of Cheng Yaojin’s image in the novels of Ming and Qing Dynasties.This chapter combined with the background of the novels’ creation,reveals that Cheng Yaojin’s image reflects thedreams and contemporary pursuits of the citizens.The fifth chapter is the skills about character creation in the novels.It mainly analyzes the skills used by authors in shaping Cheng Yaojin’s image,such as magical narration,contrast and rewrite.Finally,the conclusion section reviews the evolution of Cheng Yaojin’s image.It also briefly introduces the development of Cheng Yaojin’s image in the field of storytelling,film and television,and games.
