In 1984,inspired by the realistic film 'Life' of Wu Tianming,the fourth generation director of China,and Standing on the latitude of the era,Zhong Dianfei's call for developing 'Western film' was put forward according to the present situation and future development of the China film.His call caused a spirited and long discussion in the film theory circle.China western film is the product of time and its historical background is the realizing the modernization in Reform and Opening up,and its theory background is exploring the 'film language modernization' of China film theory under the modern language situation.By the advancing of modernization the development of China western film forged ahead with several obvious stages.The film 'Life'as modern existence stands for a kind of China western film by realism;the film' Yellow land' as modern existence stands for a kind of China western film by Pharisaism;the film 'Red Sorghum'as modern existence stands for a kind of China western film by 'commercialization'.In the time of changing into commercialization,the box office plays a role as the driving force of movie existence.China western film is no longer a movie module based on regional culture, but it's swept along the 'internationalization'of China film.The film' Red Sorghum 'successfully raised the curtain of 'internationalization' of China film.At the same time,the film' Red Sorghum'had been the splendid beginning of Zhang Yimou's movie legend.When the' Hero' produced,Zhang Yimou successfully seized the international pulse of the time and create an unduplicate'Zhang Yimou Myth'.The myth is that:when the China movie need to renovate the form,Zhang Yimou can do it;when we need a director who can get a prize in the international,he can get it;when China film,under the striking of the Hollywood,is facing the collapse,he can save the box office. Thanks to Zhang Yimou who really took the responsibility to revitalize nation by developing theory of the 'western film' China film achieved these miraculous successes.From modernization to commercialization to internationalization,the relationship of them is just the real order of value system changing since the reform and opening up.Zhang Yimou successfully dealed with the transformation of chinese film caused by the change of time.From' Life' to'Yellow land' to'Red Sorghum' to'The Story of Qiu Ju 'to'Hero',they are all successful films to the transfer of the times.The more important thing is that those films can represent the time.And those films are almost all connected with Zhang Yimou.Moreover those films have a same spiritual quality,that is to say,to invent the needful plays of the creative courage 'to do others never do' for the time.This spirit is the heritage of the theory on Western Films.This heritage is present at 2hang Yimou's art blood as in the form of methodology,and it produced the spiritual force of 'Zhang Yimou's myth'.However the seeking for the art and new pursueing force of Chinese film has gone.Chinese film involed in the devoloping difficulty.When we rearched the Zhang Yimou's art logic,we found that Zhang Yimou has been the irreplaceable prioneer of Chinese movie culture since 1980,from his 'Red Sorghum' to the Opening Ceremony of 2008 Olympics.His inheritance and successful use of the Chinses theory on Western Films just are the lacks of China movie.It has undoubtful pos(?)tive meaning to review and hetit this theoretical spirit in order to improve the China movie stepping out the developing difficulty in this industrial time.
