Film is a comprehensive art with visual immediacy,in which the color of light and shadow is the main element of film modelling,and has both an explicit visual aesthetic function and internal cultural significance.In the use of color,Zhang Yimou is undoubtedly the most representative director.This paper takes Zhang Yimou's film works over the years as the research blueprint,and makes a systematic study of the shaping,color application,symbol representation and aesthetic influence of the film and television pictures.It analyses the two main aspects of Zhang Yimou's film color thinking formation and aesthetic style expression,and explores the aesthetic table of color in his films,the present form and its influence on the aesthetic appreciation of popular color.We will analyze Zhang Yimou's experience in film creation by exploring his pursuit of the ultimate color of thinking and its practical significance,and how through these things he has enhanced the public's interpretation of film color and aesthetic ability,while promoting the aesthetic level of Chinese films to a higher level of development.The research is mainly carried out in four major areas.In the first part,Zhang Yimou's film works are analyzed according to the color system,and the application and color effect of typical color blocks in the film are analyzed.Chinese and Western painting colors are compared with the film color to explore the aesthetics of the color in Zhang Yimou's film works.The second part looks at his dynamic expression effect,from the perspective of nationality and visuality,using semiotics to analyze the signifiers and meanings of the colors in Zhang Yimou's films,and analyzes the five elements of color,regional characteristics,national customs and colors embodied in Zhang Yimou's films.In regard to the artistic features of subjective creation,the third part is written from the perspective of director and audience,exploring the relationship between Zhang Yimou's film theme and color,mainly analyzing the rural theme and multi-color historical theme based on yellow,and the artistic conception and tension in Zhang Yimou's works.The fourth part considers Zhang Yimou's distinctive artistic style by analyzing the formation of his film color thinking and the multi-color mode and color system,and by exploring his diverse film color thinking and his influence on the aesthetic ability of filmmakers and audiences.Zhang Yimou is considered to be a pioneer in his explorations in film color sculpting,symbol expression and artistic style,making his works of high aesthetic value.His works have had a groundbreaking practical influence on the film market,filmmakers and audiences,popularizing and enriching the aesthetic experience of domestic and foreign audiences by the use of color in Chinese movies,filling the gap in the field of color aesthetics in Chinese productions,and has leapfrogged improvement in the overall color aesthetic level of the Chinese film and television industry as well as the aesthetic quality of individual colors.
