Musical is one of the the fastest growing,most representative and influential art form since the beginning of the 20th century。It takes about 100 years from its born till now.But (?) this 100years' time,muscical has undergone a tremendous development change.As the center of the world's musical-Broadway,musical in the world history of the development has an unshakable status.At the late 30s of 20th century,musical experience to the golden age of Broadway, which became the the most mature,most representative significance and historical status of the period during the musical hietory.During this period,a large number of handed down classics,popular works of art with high research value emerged.But the works pushed the peak of the golden age is created by Leonardo·Bernstein's "West Side Story"(West Side Story)This paper is divided into two chapters.The first chapter will be the development of musical history to make a brief introduction, and summarized the existence of three kinds of musical cloth bucket type,with emphasis on the golden age of musical theater,and the "West Side Story" as a description.ChapterⅡis a golden age of musical characteristics of music.I will proceed with an analysis of four major areas,thsese are drama poetry,plays on the musical structure of the impact and characteristics;musical aria of music features(from the rhythm,melody,harmony, tonal,themes,orchestration,musical form structural analysis,etc.);the use of the musical characteristics of instrumental passages(including the prelude to inter-outs,end,etc.) and the combination of dance and music to make a detailed analysis of introduction.Finally,I will make a simple summary throughout the golden age of musical of the music features.
