In Russian literature, there are many works which are full of intelligence andhumor, mocking at the vices of human beings and society in a critical and exaggeratemanner. Critics called this type of works satirical literature, which forms an importantpart of Russian literature.Russian writer, Michail Zoscenko, during his short and frustrated life, has alwaysbeen interested in exploring and utilizing the art of humor. He, regarded as the masterof the art of humor in Russian literature, not only creates many household works, butalso develops a unique and systematic theory of humor. And therefore the study onhis satirical and humorous writing style not only contributes to the properunderstanding of him and research on Russian satirical literature, but also serves as areference for promoting the development of satirical literature in China.There are altogether five parts in this thesis including introduction, the body partof three chapters, and conclusion.In the introduction part, by describing the important role that Michail Zoscenkoplays in Russian satirical literature, the author points out the academic significance,methodology and theoretical framework of this thesis and presents an overview ofrelated previous studies.The first chapter introduces Michail Zoscenko's inheritance and innovation oftraditional satirical literature and compares him with previous humor masters. Then itgoes onto introduce the background of his time, which shows how he changed hiswriting style under the political pressure at that time and paves the way for furtherdiscussion of his transformation.Chapter two forms the core of this thesis. It offers a detailed analysis of his selftransformationunder political pressure mainly through a case study of A Light BlueBook, comparing it with previous works and analyzing the differences.Based on the comparison and analysis of chapter two, chapter three give s anobjective evaluation of his works, pointing out that Michaill Zoscenko never changehis motivation and purpose for writing and sticks to humanitarianism.At last, the conclusion part makes a summary of the previous three chapters,deepens understanding of Michail Zoscenko. It also points out the relationshipbetween politics and literature, and argues that the harmony between the two is very important to society.
