Most of the letters of Qin dynasty and Han dynasty are found in ancient literature and documents written on bamboo slips or wooden tablets which come up out of land. This article analyzes and concludes the literary and historic value and social significant of the private letters between Qin dynasty and Han dynasty, which contains the characters of development, the main idea, the kind, the philosophic issues, and the effects of the private letters in that epoch.Part one of this article introduces the origin and developing of letters between Qin dynasty and Han dynasty. It contains three chapters: the separation of government and private letters, the forms of development, the format and ceremony of letters, and discusses these three chapters separately. Part two gives various of examples of ancient literature to analyze the main idea and category of these letters in the way of history and literature. Part three discusses the characters of Letter written on bamboo slips or wooden tablets and writing custom of the Qin Han. Part four describes the four effects of letters Qinhanjiandu, allowing the readers to understand the consuming price of Qin dynasty, the Di Su system and family system, and it also helping the readers to understand the life styles of Han dynasty more clearly. Part five describes the issues that reflected in letters of Qin dynasty and Han dynasty in five aspects: the justice system, the status of women, the lives of normal soldiers and officers of frontier fortress and the relationship of ordinary citizens. Part six discusses the artistic characters of these letters according to the three characters of letters.
