Xi'an Industrial Heritage Protection And Utilization Of Exploration

The subject of Programs and Plans of Industrial Legacy Protection(PPILP) has caught attention for the past few years. However, the research on the PPILP is a newly developing filed, we do not have a standards system to filter and accreditate the PPILP. Although the research on the reuse and transformation of industrial wasteland and landscape, which is raised by several experts before, did not reach to the level of heritage protection, it still accumulated a lot of valuable experience for the PPILP.As a traditional industrial city, Xi'an has a lot of industrial legacy, such as the former sites of Zhongnan Macth Corp. and Dahua Textile Mill have been included in the book The cultural relic atlas of China(Shanxi Volume). All these legacies have witnessed the promoting effect by the city's industrial development to the economic society. The filter and protection to the industrial legacy with multiple value and characters will raise the city's cultural quality and maintain its historical character. Also it can differentiate the city's style from other cities and keep its vivid local feature. This paper is a compliation and investigation of the existing industrial legacies of Xi'an City, and after the comparison with other similar legacies domestic and internatioal, the author choose Dahua Textile Mill, which has a relatively clear value, to analyze its historical, social, technological, economical and aesthetic value in order to build a scheme of the PPILP of Xi'an.1. It should represent an universal feature in a paricular stage of the city's industrial development, and is the only one of all exising legacies or the one of the fews2. It should has an outstanding value and significant meaning in the city's industrial development.3. It should be the outstanding representative of the city's construction style, technology system and city landscape. It should represent clearly characters of the city's technology and art.
