In recent years,as the research of mandarin Chinese and the compilation work of its dictionaries are making continuous progress ,Modern Chinese Dictionary( the fifth edition)tag parts of speech .We have to reflect such a question on tagging parts of speech:the correspondent relation between parts of speech and their examples which illustrated. The example is concentrated on the exhibition of a word's(with its POS marked) grammatical functions and meanings.Since different parts of speech stand for different grammatical functions and meanings of words, the subtle correspondent illustrating relation should be paid attention to.For this reason, based on parts of speech, this article concentrates on the research of the verb examples in the Modern Chinese Dictionary(the fifth edition).First, all the verbs(dialect, spoken language, written language and ancient usage of the text is not included) in the Modern Chinese Dictionary are looked up and divided into two categories:one is with correspondent examples, the other is not.Second, according to Zhu Dexi's Syntax Notes, the article analyses the syntactic components (such as:subject, object, etc) each word plays as in the examples or the relationships constituting a phrase structure(such as:setting, the subject-predicate,etc). Finally, some shortcomings in the Modern Chinese Dicttionary(the fifth edition) in illustrating examples are pointed out after the compilation of the analyzing material in order to arouse the attention of lexicographers,so that mandarin Chinese dictionary's quality in illustrating examples can be improved constantly in the future.
