On Chapter Feature Film Creation

Time consciousness has always been rare in Chinese films, especially before 1990s. The space consciousness, which extends from the character's behavior, has caught the dominant position in Chinese films for a long time. But after the rise of the directors of new generation, this situation has changed. By analyzing Zhang Ming's films, this paper attempts to clarify the possibility of the realization of the time consciousness in the contemporary Chinese films. Zhang Ming, as an alienation from the commercial film system and political film system in China, the originality of his films is that he did not concerned about the history and the nation, as the directors of older generation; nor concerned about the personal growth or social reality, like the other directors of new generation. He pays attention to the individual emotions of the common people under the camera lens. This choice makes the realization of the time consciousness possible.This paper is divided into three chapters for the specific discussion of his film. ChapterⅠGenerally remarks the special position of Zhang Ming in the group of new generation, and narrates the main clue of his works. In the second chapter, I will analysis some representative images of the films, which serves two purposes:making Zhang Ming's personal style emerge, and above that, the second purpose is to find the path through which the time consciousness penetrates into the concrete images. ChapterⅢwill be in full swing of exposing the concept "time-image", which will be demonstrated to be the core of his images. Zhang Ming have done some commercial attempts, which takes him the failure and a narrower road of commercialization. This may be an unfortunate, but more likely to be a lucky, away from the hustle and bustle of the commercial film system, he might will burst a more brilliant light of the experimental images.
