With the development of computer technology, animation and digital media is growing quickly in China. "Reform And Opening" national policy encourages foreign animation to poured into the Chinese market. The animation industry in China is in the stage of rapid development. Looking through Chinese animation history, we have been studying and developing deeply in the field of animation skills and styles. However, we are still in need of a complete academic system for animation study. After years of study, I realize that some definitions, such as "stop motion"," puppet animation" and "pose to pose animation" are still not clear enough for the people who study animation in China. And it's hard for them to find the academic explanation in translated books or tutorials, so that many confusions have been caused. As we know, theory is a cornerstone for future creation and development. Therefore, I wish to clarify these definitions in this article."Stop motion" has been part of Chinese animation culture for almost 100 years. And it has been combined with many traditional Chinese culture elements, such as, "Paper Cutting arts", "Pi Ying" and "Chinese puppet". Today, market are filled with animation products from Japan, North America and Europe. As an animator in China, I believe it's my responsibility to research and develop native "stop motion" animation in China.
