Introduction To Stop Motion Animation Short Film Creation

Since the born of stop-motion animation. It affect our daily life in an unique artistic way. It becomes one of the indispensable entertainment components. Stop-motion animation special filming technique can achieve the visual effect which other video arts cannot. It can flatly descript your story, freely exaggerated virtually and also raunchy or even a powerful and unconstrained style to finish the visual images of the director. No matter the simplicity and exaggerated of the two-dimension hand-drawn animation or the gorgeous and spectacular3D animation, they both cannot be substituted by the stop-motion animation in artistic status.Production process of stop-motion animation and others type of animation is basically similar including script, characters design, set design, storyboards layout, med-term production, post-production, final film,etc. Med-term production of the stop-motion animation is the most important part of the filming process. Figure and set modeling, lighting and camera shooting are keys of success in the mid-term production. Form of stop-motion animation production is not solely existed. It can be composed with two-dimensional, three-dimensional and real human.This essay has elaborated on the relationship between the developing history of western stop-motion animation, artistic language, basic theories, artistic process and shooting composition in order to deeply understanding of stop-motion animation. I also implement the theory and practical production of my graduation project of "Ice Lantern" for sharing. Through the recording of production process and method, I share and release my new experience and result with stop-motion animation creators. At the same time, I would like to have further criticism and corrections on my animation production method and artistic concepts.
