Chinese Clothing Idioms, Metonymy And Metaphor

Raiment is an important part to human life.The idioms of raiment have high linguistics and cultural values.At present,the study of the idioms of raiment focused on the cultural dimension.The 90's of 20th centuty,the theory of the metaphor and metonymy had been introduced to the domestic academic circles. The research results of the linguistics that the metaphor and metonymy are more plentiful,which provides new perspective to the study of the idioms of raiment.This thesis attempts to the perspective of the metonymy and metaphor to analyse the idioms of raiment, which points out the two basic approaches to the semantic generalization of the idioms of raiment,there are metonymy and metaphor. At the same time, this thesis proposes their mechanism. The approache to metonymies and metaphors of the idioms of raiment is a useful supplement to the metonymies and metaphors in the Chinese.It will have a certain theoretical significance to the whole of the metonymies and metaphors in the Chinese and the practical significance to the combination of the theory and the research in Chinese.This thesis tries to the contemporary cognitive theory of the metonymy and metaphor,which has been used in the analysis of the idioms of raiment. In order to gain a new understanding of the idioms of raiment.The methodolgies employed in the thesis are: statistics,comparison, chart analysis, the method of the description and interpretation,etc.In general,the thesis adopts the method of the combination of the qualitative and quantitative research together. The study will generalize the phenomenon on the one hand;and on the other hand,it will explicate every fact by analyzing the statistics.There are four parts of innovations in this study:This thesis (1) through the collection and comparison to the study,that specifies the idioms of raiment,and they have extended meaning of the metonymy and metaphor;(2) through the comparison of the metonymy and metaphor,that finds out the numbers of the metonymy are more than the metaphor.It is because of the features of the raiment;(3) combined the metonymy and metaphor of the idioms of raiment,that proposes their mechanism;(4) through the comparative analysis of the idioms of raiment, which proves that metonymy is more common than the metaphor.
