Ever since ancient time, South Korea is closely related to their geographical neighbor, China and Japan, in the aspects of Politic, culture and economic. Especially China, it is the most important country for South Korea's foreign trade during the time. And China had a great impact to the society in all kinds of aspects in South Korea. This kind of relationship still remains the same even in nowadays where globalization is accelerating. To South Korea, China is still a very important trading partner. And its diplomacy is also in a priority position. Because of these reasons, diplomatic relation between South Korea and China is still a very sensitive and important topic."Tongmungwanji" is a book that records the diplomatic relation between South Korea, China and Japan during Chosun Dynasty. Thru this book, we are able to understand the diplomatic relationship between South Korea, China and Japan during the time.The main goal of this thesis paper is to fully explore the book-"Tongmungwanji" one that is very important to the history of diplomatic relation between South Korea and China and try to tease out the business activities and social impacts that act as a bridge between the two countries.During the late period of Chosun dynasty as the diplomatic relations between the three countries are increasingly active, people are more aware of the language Chinese, Japanese and other foreign languages. Especially Chinese; because of the politics and economics reasons, Chinese became the most important foreign language in South Korea during that time. With this kind of historical thread, Chinese interpreter gained the opportunity to develop the economics thru tributary, which is an important economical interactive form between South Korea and China. On the other hand, few interpreters conduct communication with the local people in China or Japan to expand the literature that they are not able to expand in their own Chosun society. They also focus on the Choong-in class, imitating the Yang-Ban who were the noble man to form poetry clubs. Moreover, with the decline of Feudal system interpreters are the ones who have the first contact with new cultural, thinking…etc. They are later very important to the modernization of South Korea.In the first chapter of the book "Tongmungwanji," it introduces and summarizes the current result of the research. In the second chapter of the book, it discusses the compilation of "Tongmungwanji" and provides regulations and historical values content. In the third chapter, it talks about the topics base on current studies. It describes the interpreters'system and function that act as a bridge for foreign business between South Korea and China during that period. The author has divided this chapter into three main parts:Political and diplomatically activities, economical activities and cultural activities. Especially in the part of cultural activities, it covers a very broad range and hence in this chapter, it focuses on the contents of books exchange, personal literary activities and the spreading of western culture…etc.
