"Shenxian songs" is a sacrifice Suite of the Southern Dynasties. It was included in the "Qing Shang Qu Ci" of the "Bureau Poems" which was edited by Guo Maoqian. Although it only contains 11 titles and 18 qu, its position and role is very important. In the introductory section, this paper will make an overview of the "Shenxian songs", and indicate the research purposes, meanings and methods of this thesis. This paper will analyze the contents and the worship of the "Shenxian songs" under the combination of folk-customs and folk-custom beliefs. Besides, this paper will explore the performance characteristics and cultural values of the "Shenxian songs".In the first chapter, I will point out the current situation on the basis of the review of existing researches. The study mainly focuses on the following four major areas:the knowledge of the nature; the awareness of the overall structure; the understanding of the geographical areas and the cultural meanings. However, it also contains some inadequacies. First, the research of the "Shenxian songs" is too simple and it only focuses on some particular issues. Second, it overlooks performance characteristics and cultural values of "Shenxian songs".The second chapter will explain the overall structure of the "Shenxian songs" and affirm the academic knowledge about "Towards Gods-Recreation Gods-Send-off Gods". And then this paper will make the further analysis of the levels and status of the gods. This paper contends that "Shenxian songs" is a group of worship songs which worship "Ming Gu" and other local gods.The third chapter will research into the producers and consumers of "Shenxian songs", explore the uses and performances and reveal the values and meanings. At the same time, "Shenxian songs" as a sacrifice Suite also has distinctive features. The performances will combine together the performers, musical instruments, and specific rituals very well.In the fourth chapter, this paper will explore the original culture of "Shenxian songs". I will analyze the relationship of folk-customs and folk-custom beliefs under the combination of the divine levels and specific ritual objects. The cultural foundation of "Shenxian songs" contains Apollo beliefs, lotus customs, local God beliefs, plant faith, Taoism beliefs etc. The contents of "Shenxian songs" also reflected these beliefs and customs.The fifth chapter explores the origin and impact of "Shenxian songs". It generated in the Southern Dynasties, which had been affected by the early emergence of the "Nine Songs", and also influenced the later literary creations. For instance, there are creative activities which are related to "Shenxian songs" in the Tang Dynasty.The conclusion part reveals the cultural values of the "Shenxian songs", and reviews briefly the entire gains and losses of the paper. Therefore provide some recommendations for the related study.
