Shen Yahweh Songwriting

Shen Yawei(1920~2002), an outstanding military composer of our country, had been creative throughout all his artistic life. He was good at observing, understanding and grasping essence of living, as well as studying experiences of former composers and innovating to produce new opus. A lot of immensely popular songs written by him were still sung by soldiers and common people till now. He had made great contribution to the development of Chinese military music.Chapter 1 presents a biographical note on Shen Yawei's life and music as a review on his artistic life. Then, we divide his artistic life into two historical stages, wartime and peacetime, by the foundation of P.R. of China. In Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, these two stages are analyzed and researched respectively from age background and musical subject, music creation skills and characteristics. The conclusion part covers a summary of these two stages and a concise discussion on reasons for formation of his music creation style and historical contribution of him.
