Iran has a relationship with the Central Asian region for a long time, which among the ethnic, religious, and cultural aspects is inextricably linked. Iran's relations with Central Asian region had been isolated at the national level, since the establishment of the Soviet Union. After the Cold War, with the five Central Asian countries'independence successively, the Central Asian re-emerges as an independent political force on the world stage. Iran's relations with Central Asian region entered a new stage of development. Iran takes a cooperative and pragmatic stand to develop relations positively with the five Central Asian countries. The five Central Asian countries also regard Iran as an important partner because of Iran's geo-strategic position and regional influence. Generally speaking, Iran's relations with the five countries of Central Asia, despite some twists and turns, are upward trend. In the new century, given that the fact of United States entering Central Asia almost in all the aspects, Iran pays more attention to the political cooperation and economic exchanges with five Central Asian States in order to confront the United States'sanctions and isolation policies. At present Iran has worked actively together with the five Central Asian States in regional affairs and energy cooperation. Especially viewing from the culture aspect, Iran strengthen diplomatic intercourse with five Central Asian countries to enhance Iran's influence in Central Asia region through taking use of its historical ties with Central Asian countries and the cultural, religious homogeneity factors. But it is undeniable that Iran-US relation to a large extent restricts further development of the relationship between Iran and the five Central Asian countries. Iran was threatened by the intervention of the United States about the energy, regional security and other fields. Iran-US relation will be a key factor influencing relations between Iran and the five Central Asian countries in the future.
