With the development of society, economy, the further reform of college entrance examination system and the deterioration of employment situation, millions of Reviewing-School-Students are emerging, and a series of social psychological problems came into being inevitably. As a special group, Reviewing-School-Students suffered strong stresses from family, school and even themselves, so that they would be very susceptible to various adverse psychological reactions which may impact on their physical and mental health, school work and life. How to change the Reviewing-School-Students' psychological stress state has become a hot topic. Stress Inoculation Training (SIT), putting forward by Donald-Meikenbaomu (Meiehenbaum, 1975), is a combination of cognitive and behavioral therapies. SIT aims at enabling callers to prepare themselves previously and react effectively when facing stresses by helping them learn both physical and cognitive skills.Purposes:Aiming at their psychological stress state, this study took SIT on the Reviewing-School-Students and focused on the effect of it on improving their capability of resisting pressures, mental health, as well as academic achievement. Then according to the results, we can develop a set of methods and technologies for Reviewing-School-Students' chronic psychological stress intervention. This will offer actually effective help for improving their psychological health level and relieving stress. Methods and Procedures:①Questionnaire method:By using Student Life Stress Questionnaire (SLSI), Middle School Students Mental Health Scale (MSSMHS), Middle School Student Coping Style Questionnaire and Social Support Questionnaire, this study selected 242 Reviewing-School-Students to compare the differences of mental stress level between different groups.244 current students were taking as reference to compare the mental stress levels between two groups (Reviewing-School-Students, current students).②Experimental method:Divided the 205 eligible Reviewing-School-Students into two groups randomly (111 students for the experimental group and 94 for the control group). Then 3-month stress inoculation training was carrying on students in experimental group. After that, we compared the mental stress levels, psychological health levels and academic achievements of students between two groups again.③In-depth interviews:This study used interviews, group discussions and follow-up telephone interviews to intervene, and supervise the practical appliction of Stress Inoculation Training.④Statistical method:Work out the model of relation between psychological stress and each variable according to the questionaire results.Results:①There was significant stress level difference between male and female Reviewing-School-Students as well as their family income and psychological state, but no such difference between age and acdemic performance.②Reviewing-School-Students'overall stress level was significantly higher than Current Students', which was showed in the factors such as physiological and emotional reaction, frustration, pressures and self-imposed. The propotion of Reviewing-School-Students who were in high stress level was bigger than that of current students.③Psychological stress level could predict psychological health, as could be realized mainly by impacts of frustration, self-enhancement, stress factor,etc.④There was a great stress difference between before and after inoculation training intervention to the Reviewing-School-Students.⑤After inoculation training intervention, the Reviewing-School-Students also showed a great difference in mental health level compared with before intervention.⑤Before and after the intervention, the improvement of Reviewing-School-Students' academic performance was not significant, but the number of students who made progress increased markedly.Conclusions:①There was stress level difference between different types of students. That is to say, for female, the stress level was significantly higher than for male, and for students of rural household higher than for those of urban household.②The Reviewing-School-Students were in high psychological stress state.③Experiment results well matched the structure modle of psychological stress and each variable.④Stress inoculation technique could effectively reduce the Reviewing-School-Student's mental stress level.⑤Stress inoculation technique was an important way to improve student's mental health and academic performance. The innovational points of this study were as follows:①We selected the Reviewing-School-Students, a special group, as the participates of our study. Few previous research has ever done like this, which highlights the novelty of this study.②In this study, we used a research method which is a combination of questionnaire study and experimental study of clinical psychology and applied Stress Inoculation Training to the Reviewing-School-Students to make up the deficiency of past psychological intervention approaches. Also, this study aimed at making psychological intervention more comprehensive, providing the scientific data and the implementation plan for the psychological stress intervention to Reviewing-School-Students.
