Luc Besson Film Studies

Luc Besson is a controversial director in the contemporary French film industry. His works includes both art films which are represented by European films and commercial films which are represented by Hollywood films. His works, which are combinations of the French romantic lifestyles and Hollywood entertainment commerce, are known for distinctive art character and profound humanistic connotation.According the creation date and integral style, this thesis divides his films into two parts, namely, the early art films with French romantic lifestyles and the later films influenced by Hollywood entertainment commerce. This thesis will show their differences through analyzing their theme selection, image style and narrative strategies. Then, we will observe and study his constant concern on human nature and emotions.
