Based on the study of tang dynasty's filial piety, the paper explains the concept and development process of Confucian filial piety. It analyses the filial piety in the period of Emperor Tang Taizong, Empress Wu, and Emperor Tang Xuanzong and tries to reveal the contents, characteristics and development of filial piety under the background of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. In addition to, the paper analyses the filial piety of Tang Dynasty and the Book of Filial Piety and explores the historical and inevitability causes whether the rulers which advocates of Buddhism or Taoism are to develop of filial piety. Especially during the period of Emperor Xuanzong who advocates filial piety and discusses the viewpoint of "the book of filial piety" makes Confucianism eventually become social ethics and social culture in later Tang dynasty and laid solid foundation for the arrival of neo-Confucianism.It has a positive significance to research filial piety in modern society. Filial piety is the fundament of person. There is a Chinese word saying:filial piety is the first of all goodness and is the core of the Confucian ethics which makes up traditional culture of China. But the traditional supporting mechanism has been broken because of the reforms of market-oriented economy and some scholars even advocate filial piety is declining. Wei dedong, who is a professor of Chinese people's university, pointed out that the problem of elder people suicide problem is serious in recent years in our country. The most extreme on behalf of the region is in jingshan county, Hubei province where the rate of suicide is one per thousand. It is horrible that suicide of disable elder person is widely accepted in many county. Children take their sick parents into a cave directly and let them finish the life in pain. What is the reason that makes the decline of filial piety and the crisis of surpotting? The question impels me to explore the idea of filial piety, and make a comparison to today's status.There are many works and papers of filial piety. This paper looks the development of ideas as a clue, analysis the establishment and development process of filial piety, and focus on the content and characteristics of filial piety under the impact of Buddhism and Taoism. Han, Wei, Jin, South and North dynasties and Tang have individualities in political, cultural, religious and other aspects. It has high academic value and significance to study how the Confucian filial piety develops under the impact of Buddhism and Taoism in the three dynasties. It is also important to find the relationship which Confucian filial piety with the characteristics, and social, political and cultural and how closely related to the arrival of neo-Confucianism. This paper tries to account the development and characteristics of Confusion filial piety of Emperor Tang gauzu, Empress Wu and Tang Xuanzong period systemic and comprehensively, analyses the impact and influence which Buddhism and Taoism duty to and find the deep relationship of Confusion filial piety and the development of society. It helps us not only to absorb the essence of Confucian filial piety but also to build socialistic harmonious society that Study Confucian filial piety and analyze the conflicts compromise with Buddhism and Taoism, and excavates the essential reason which rulers attach importance to the function of filial piety in ethicaL, social and political field.
