With the rapid development of China's economy, its environmental problems are becoming increasingly acute. Environmental protection has been an urgent issue facing the government of every country, especially those developing ones. The realization of a sustainable and stable society will not be possible until the environmental issues are solved. Therefore, it is significant and practical to study the role played by the government in the environmental crisis. This passage is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the basic concepts concerning the responsibilities taken by the government in the environment disaster. The definition of environment crisis is also given, which refers to the environment events that bring enormous damage to life, property and social, economic and political stability. Besides, the reasons of the environment crisis and government responsibilities are also mentioned. Part two mainly introduces the experiences of some other countries in the environment crisis, such as America, Japan and Russia. Part three investigates the current situation of China's government in dealing with its environment issues. On the one hand, the legislation department in China has issued several laws and regulations concerning the environment issues. On the other hand, the government also gets some first-hand experience by dealing with the environmental problems. Take the event in Yunnan's Yangzong Lake for instance, after inspecting the arsenic pollution, the relevant departments have taken both timely and long-term measures. The fourth part analyzes both the strengths and weaknesses of China's government in dealing with its environment issues. The fifth part gives some suggestions to improve the role played by the China's government as well as its environment policies.
