Ukraine and European Union (EU) are two important powers in European geopolitical world. Ukraine is the largest country in Europe with foremost geographical position, and EU is currently the strongest supranational and integrated union. After EU's last eastward expansion in 2007, it has pushed its boundary to the border of Ukraine, advancing the original common political and economic relations between them to"neighboring"and geopolitical relations. EU is endowed with three methods for community---common market, common diplomacy and common judicature, which has also begun to influence Ukraine's ties with this"gigantic European neighbor"in a particular way. By analyzing the mechanism of mutual exchanges, we can get to know their internal political operations. As to the relations between Ukraine and EU, EU plays a dominant role, which is represented by its right of speech in determining mutual relations as well as the actual practices. Based on a breakthrough point of safety of Europe, we can find the major factors affecting EU's measurement of mutual relations. EU's eastward expansion and the game between Russia and America constitute the major external factors for the overall geopolitical situation in Europe, so it is necessary to conduct an overall analysis of these factors in order to measure the relations between Ukraine and EU. After above necessary external and internal analysis of mutual relations, based on an integrated sorting out and study of the materials related to mutual relations during my postgraduate phase, this paper attempts to make a preliminary prediction of the future development of Ukraine-EU relations, and to disprove relevant conclusions.
