Living space segregation is a universal phenomenon, as one of the main immigrant country in the world, the space segregation of Canada is more typical, the living space segregation between majority and minority ethnic groups is especially obvious. And China has always been one of the main sources of immigration to Canada. With the increasingly close exchanges and contacts between China and Canada, the number of ethnic Chinese continue to increase. In 2005, the population of Chinese is about 1.2 million, and became the largest minority group in Canada, accounting for 3.8% of Canada’s total population. In 2011, Chinese population growth to about 1.5 million, accounting for 4.48 percent of Canada’s total population, and has occupied an important seat in the composition of Canada’s population. Chinese still highly praised by the Canadian government and people now, just because of their contribution to local development and building can’t be replaced, But so far, whether the economic or social or cultural aspects, Chinese have not really integrated into the local community, and the living space is maintain a high level of segregation. Toronto metropolitan area, Vancouver metropolitan area and Montreal metropolitan area gathered more than 80 percent of Chinese in Canada. In this studying, we choose the three census metropolitan areas as space vector, Based the Canadian census data, using Geographic Information Systems(GIS) spatial analysis tools to delve into the problem of Chinese Canadian’s living space segregation. In the view of exploring the living space segregation characteristics, striving to research the reasons of segregation, and giving suitable measures and suggestions, providing a theoretical perspective and practice strutting for Chinese Canadian that can truly integrate into the local community.The study included six parts:The first part introduces the background and significance of the study, theoretical studies in domestic and foreign, research content and study area of this article.The second part explore the living space segregation’s evolution of Chinese, including its temporal evolution of living history, the basic characteristics of living space and the main space isolation mode.The fourth part, analyzed and discussed the impact of Chinese Canadian living space segregation will result in, including the beneficial effects and adverse effects.The fifth part, proposing countermeasures to alleviate the living space segregation level of Chinese Canadian, such as the promotion of mixed residential, balanced public facilities, narrowing the gap between rich and poor, reducing racial discrimination.The sixth part, the main conclusions and prospects.
