Research On Sino - Korea Fisheries Agreement

Our country is a maritime power which has a long and tortuous coastline as long as 18,000 kilometers. In history,our county used to be regarded as a strong maritime power for some historical period such as the Tang Dynasty.However,since he Ming and Qing Dynasty,the rulers conducted the policy of isolation and make China henceforth become a country which only put the emphasis on the land rather than the ocean.Since the Opium War,the western invaders opened the gate of China with their gunboats,making China mired in passive and poverty for a long period.And just because of that,China was finally able to open its eyes to see the world;and just because of that,the concept of the right of marine started to come into notice.Since the new China was founded,especially since the Reform and Opening up,the strength of China has be enhanced gradually,and the awareness of marine rights has been advancing with times by the whole country.Nowdays,the report of 18 th Party Congress clearly pointed that,“improve the ability of development of marine resources;resolutely safeguard national marine rights;construct a great maritime power.”“ Construction of the maritime power”has become an important strategic goal of our nation.However,the maritime neighbours of our country such as South Korea,Japan,etc.are mostly peninsula or island countries,whose marine rights are self-evident important. Since the 21 th century,China disputes over marine rights with itsmarine neighbours more and more.Fishery dispute is a significant part of all marine disputes.And the dispute of China and Korea on EEZ is such a dispute which contains fishery dispute mainly and some other complex factors such as regional politics and history.With the aim to peaceful settlement of the disputes,the Chinese government and the South Korea government signed <China and South Korea Fishery Agreement>in2000,which produced a profound longterm effect to the settlement of the dispute and provided some opportunities to resolve other regional political problems.
