In recent years various conflicts on maritime delimitation and island disputes between China and its neighboring countries gradually stand out. For this reason, it has appeared a lot of studies on these questions in domestic academe. And these studies are mainly about the seapower of China.Seapower is a word both familiar and strange to Chinese people. However, back through Chinese modern history it was the seapower by virtue of what western powers broke into closed China at that time, bringing the country heavy humiliation and grief. Realistically speaking, Chinese people bearing long-term traditional thoughts of regarding land and despising sea show little understanding of seapower. Especially with the rapid development in recent years, seapower has now become an issue that China has to face on its way to achieve great rejuvenation of the nation.Therefore, the paper attempts to study the issue of China’s seapower and present some views on current arguments about the development of China’s seapower in domestic academe. The paper is divided into five chapters as follows. Chapter One defines the content of China’s seapower combining with the development of traditional seapower theories. Chapter Two analyzes China’s specific geographical conditions and corresponding advantages and difficulties for the development of China’s seapower. Chapter Three discusses practical significance of the development of China’s seapower. Chapter Four focuses on two unavoidable questions the development of China’s seapower will meet. One is the relationship between the development of land-power and seapower. And the other is the features of China’s new type seapower. Chapter Five proposes suggestions and countermeasures for the development of China’s seapower.
