Since 1996, the economic growth of China's economy has slowed down by a large margin and for a relatively long period. As an important indication of economic prosperity, the commodity retail price index has declined sharply after the two-digit inflation during 1993-1995, reaching the historical low of-3.0% in 1999.As far as the reason for the above-mentioned economic slowdown is concerned, different economists have different views. Many believe that the solution is to carry out larger government investment to promote further economic growth, but this proposal seems to neglect the underlying problems in our national economy.Based on careful analysis of relative statistical data, the author thinks that the main problem of Chinese economy is not insufficient investment demand, but consumption demand To be more specific, it is the rural and urban consumption demand, not government consumption demand, which underlies the inefficient Chinese economy. Among the three consumption demand, the rural consumption demand is the most important. The main argument of this thesis is that the insufficient consumption demand of our country is structural, which means the main problems lie in consumption of rural areas but not that of urban areas. This thesis takes our rural market as the research object, and makes a comprehensive research and thinking on rural market from historical viewpoint based on realistic issues. In this thesis, the author not only gives a comprehensive account of the history and current situations of rural markets, but also analyzes how to develop rural markets logically. What's more, it points out the existing problems in the development of rural markets, and thinks about how to promote the development of rural markets. This thesis is divided into four chapters.Chapter one argues that it is necessary to develop rural markets by describing the important role and realistic significance of rural markets.Chapter two first introduces the historical reform of our rural markets since the reform and opening to the outside world from a historical viewpoint, then analyzes the characteristics of rural market structure and the behavioral feature of rural people.Chapter three points out the existing problems in rural market development from many perspectives, and the underlying reason for that is carefully examined.Chapter four puts forward many effective measures to develop rural markets from the viewpoint of rural economic relations, relative system structure, etc based on careful examination of the current problems in the development of rural markets.
