Since the economic reforms and open-door policies began in the late 1970s, China has become the fastest growing economy in the world. Reform broke first through the traditional economic system of China抯 rural areas, then went deep into all aspects of our social life. Reform carried strongly forward the process of China抯 modernization. So far, the reform of rural economic system has not completed, rural areas need a new phase of innovation to carry out the change from the traditional agriculture to the modern agriculture. Part 1 of this thesis attempts to elucidate the necessity of China抯 rural economic system reform. This thesis probes into the theoretic foundation of reform: reform results from the contradiction between productive forces and production relations and between economic basis and superstructure, it also roots in the deepening opinion of socialistic market economy. This thesis secondly discusses the historic inevitability of reform from the point of view of the under-developed rural productive forces before the reform and the disadvantages of the traditional rural economic system. Part 2 reviews three phases of the rural economic reform: from the founding of the Household Contract Responsibility System and the Job Responsibility to the all-sided marketlization of rural areas. It depicts a way of rural reform facing the market gradually and orientates the farther rural reform. Part 3 illustrates the great achievements of the rural economic system reforms through the investigation of the rapid economic growth in the new period and the new pattern of the rural economic system. Part 4 points out that the key of the farther reform of the rural economic system is agricultural industrialization through the analysis of the rural difficulties nowadays and the forecast of the new global conditions of anticipating WTO , and put forward some suggestions. The success of rural reform depends on a series of the external conditions. This explains that the rural reform is arduous and complicated.
