In the modern life of a diversified economy, modern logistics is gaining increasing importance due to its great effect on production, transportation and consumption, yet traditional transportation, as a matter of fact, still plays the most important role in modern logistics. However, the configuration and function of modern transportation logistics are quite different from those of traditional transportation. Take supply chain as an example, the service of transportation logistics, which starts nearly from the supply of raw materials and extends even to the field of after-sales service, takes the form of a continuous line and has been greatly expanded and strengthened in terms of function. To avoid possible confusion of these two concepts, I would like to circumscribe the transportation in modern logistics as 搕ransportation logistics. When we examine transportation logistics and develop relative software for it, we find that modern logistics, as a newly emerging thing, still has a wide blank in its theoretical system, which results in the lack of theory to guide the production of modern logistics as well as foundation for demand analysis, macro and micro systematical design in the development of its software. As a further result, there is kind of chaos in the administration of transportation logistics, which leads to constant poor profit. Therefore, logistics, 揳 black island in economics? growing even more mysterious and harder to understand, necessitates the research to rationalize transportation logistics and inquiry into the theories relevant, which is herein termed as rationalization of transportation logistics? The theoretical analysis and systematical construction of the rationalization of transportation logistics should be a process of integration of theory and practice. For this sake, the first chapter of this paper begins with the general idea of logistics and new techniques applied in it, then gives a brief account of the current situation of transportation logistics in China, which leads to the subject of rationalization of transportation logistics. In the second chapter, an investigation into the construction of a transport truck fleet is made to present the principle for the optimum number of trucks in a fleet. Then quantitative analysis and evaluation37;in terms of economy, convenience and safety are given to provide guideline for the management and economic analysis of transportation logistics. In the third chapter the question of selecting best transit routes in transportation logistics is talked about from the points of mileage and cost. Some route-picking methods to meet the basic requirements of transportation logistics, e.g. least cost or time, as well as the computerization of these methods, are presented on the basis of the discussion. Meanwhile, the question of multiobjective planning is investigated in an attempt to provide theoretical guidance for the overall planning of transportation logistics.Chapter Four centers on the object of transportation logistics-梩he distribution of materials. In actual production, transit modes depend on the type of cargo and the demands of customers, so at the beginning of this chapter restrictive factors in cargo dispatching are discussed. Then logistics transportation is dichotomized into direct conveyance and transshipment conveyance according to whether transshipment of cargo is involved. Further, in terms of variety, transportation Logistics is classified into mono-variety and multivariety material distributions. And researches are made respectively into their rationalization. In Chapter Five, general principles governing the selecting of transit modes are approached; comprehensive analysis of and comparison between different modes of transit are made as well in terms of their strong points and weak points. Chapter Six delves in theory into an intelligent truck dispatch system and analyses the functions such a system should possess and the mode in which these functions work. On this basis an attempt is made to e...
