Z's Global Container Transportation Information Systems Development And Applied Research

This paper, in light of the development trend of container transport market, makes research and discussion on the Global Container Transport System of Z Company regarding its business specialty and the process of its information system development. Based on the analysis on the characteristics and trend of container liner development and on the impact thereon of modern science and technology, especially the development of information tech and e-commerce, this article draws a conclusion that the competition among container liners is that of information management besides operation management. The backwardness of global container transport information system will gravely affect the competition of container liners. As a result, it becomes the inevitable choice for container liners, in the face of new market competition, to strengthen information system construction, improve customer service and operation efficiency, reduce cost and develop e- commerce. In allusion to the specific situation of Z Company, this article makes an analysis in detail on the information system development history and the use of its information system. On the one hand, the author thinks that Z Company抯 operation and management system political makes its global information system an isolated island; on the other hand, through an technical analysis by use of NOLAN theory, the author thinks that there is still a large gap in information system development between Z Company and other advanced counterparts. Employing the methods of corporate information system and taking into full consideration the good experience of those international advanced container liners in establishing global information system, this thesis, based on the general function orientation of global information system for international container transportation, presents the solutions to the global container information system of Z company, circling around the above issues. The author believes the strategic steps of information system construction should follow the principle of being business operation driven and technically supported. This paper also stresses the importance of strategy planning for information system, discusses the policy and target for incorporate information system construction and makes detailed analyses on the functional demands in the information system of such modules as marketing management, liner transport management, equipment control, agency business management, inland trucking and warehousing management, business statistics and operation analysis. From the angle of business management demand, it also analyzes the systematic structure of global information system, business hierarchy, converged layer network structure and data distribution structure. This dissertation makes deep analyses on the decision made by Z Company lately to introduce the ready-made application system from management mechanism side and business procedure side. It also points out the current key problems and their solutions on the basis of the experience and lessons that Z Company has obtained in information system construction for a long term. This thesis presents the solutions as good reference for Z Company in the actual information system construction and concludes valuable experience for enterprises to develop information system, especially the information system for container transport.
